DUBUQUE (KWWL) – The Board of Education for Dubuque Community Schools named a new principal for Dubuque Senior High School.

The Board of Education announced this at its Monday evening meeting.

Colpitts has been an assistant principal at Dubuque Senior High School since July 2005. Before that, he was the principal at Union High School in LaPorte City, Iowa.

In 2009, the School Administrators of Iowa named him the Assistant Principal of the Year in the State of Iowa, according to a press release from the Dubuque Community School District.

Colpitts holds a bachelor's degree in business education from University of Northern Iowa, a master's degree in educational leadership from Drake University & a certificate of superintendency from UNI.

He'll begin his new duties in July.
