Three guilty, two not guilty of records tampering in Price Lab trial

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- A Black Hawk County jury reached a verdict Monday for the first five defendants in the Price Lab trial.  A total of nine families are accused of giving false information for cheaper tuition for their kids to go to the Cedar Falls school.

Todd Eastman, Kristi Eastman and Connie Bigelow were found guilty of tampering with records.

Angela Bigelow and Cheryl Longnecker were both found not guilty.

Prosecutors say the families deliberately lied about where they lived, and tried to hide it from the state auditor.

The defense argued that what was happening was common knowledge and that the families were told what to do by a school administrator.

The trial for others charged in the case, including former State Rep. Kerry Burt, will be in April.
