DCI To Investigate Suicide of BH County Jail Inmate

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Sheriff Tony Thompson says an inmate at the Black Hawk County Jail committed suicide Thursday afternoon.

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim as 33-year old Michael Joseph Adair, whom deputies found hanging in his cell at about 12:15 Thursday afternoon, just prior to the regular daily lunch feeding.

Jail staff administered emergency medical care to Mr. Adair at the jail. Waterloo Fire & Rescue paramedics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to Allen Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Mr. Adair was being held in the Black Hawk County Jail on charges of 3rd degree Burglary.

At the request of sheriff tony Thompson, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation will handle the investigation into the death of Michael Adair.
