Dyersville's police chief on medical leave

DYERSVILLE (KWWL) -- Dyersville's police chief has been placed on medical leave due to health reasons.

City officials say effective immediately, Police Chief Martin Botts is on medical leave. Mayor James Heavens says Captain Brent Schroeder will be handling the responsibilities for the police department's day to day operations.

''I have great confidence that Captain Schroeder and the rest of the police department staff will do a terrific job serving our citizens while we await more information concerning Chief Botts' health status,'' said Mayor Heavens in a statement.

Chief Botts was hired as Dyersville's chief in August 2000 after serving as Captain for the Eagle Grove Police Department.
