Dubuque Fighting Saints looking to bounce back from 1-6 streak

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- While they still lead the USHL West Division with 41 points in 31 games, the Dubuque Fighting Saints are struggling to bounce back from the holiday break.

The Saints have lost 6 of their last 7 games, dating back to December 29th. This weekend, they will host the Des Moines Buccaneers on Friday and the Lincoln Stars on Saturday.

Wednesday night, during the 106.1 Coach's Show, Head Coach Jim Montgomery said the Saints aren't letting their losses get them down.

"We're working on defensive play, making sure that we're not spending so much time in our D-Zone", said Montgomery, "Lately we've been throwing it away in the offensive zone, and it's almost like we're expecting things to come to easy."

Even though the Saints have been experiencing some growing pains, they remain confident in each other and especially their coach.

"When I came, I didn't know the coach, but people said he was a smart, great coach. He's proved that this season and he is by far the best coach I've ever had", said forward Zemgus Girgensons.

The puck drops Friday night at the Mystique Community Ice Center at 7:00 p.m. and doors open at 6:00 p.m.
