GOP wins open Iowa Senate seat


ANKENY (KWWL) -- An Ankeny businessman will be Iowa's newest state Senator.

Republican Jack Whitver beat Democratic candidate John Calhoun for the 35th Senate District seat.   Whitver won with just under 63.5 percent of the votes. 

The post was vacated by Larry Noble. He was chosen by Gov. Terry Branstad to become the state's public safety commissioner. 

The 35th Senate District covers the northern half of Polk County.  Whitver owns a training and fitness center.
