Lt. Governor Reynolds to oversee Rebuild Iowa transition

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Gov. Terry Branstad announced Tuesday that Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds will oversee the Rebuild Iowa Office as it moves toward the June 30, closure date.

Gov. Branstad says he believes it's important for the lieutenant governor to review all options and tasks associated with Rebuild Iowa.  He will take her recommendations on how to assist Iowans during future natural disasters.

"Lieutenant Governor Reynolds will review the status and progress of the projects associated with the Rebuild Iowa Office, and ultimately will ensure a smooth transition as this office closes," said Gov. Branstad in a written statement. "I will count on her to provide me with recommendations as we move forward."

Lt. Gov. Reynolds believes this provides an opportunity to streamline current and future flood recovery efforts.

"Our administration will look for efficiencies and opportunities to best serve Iowans, especially during times when they need it most," said Lt. Gov. Reynolds in a written statement. "We will study the efforts RIO undertook to understand what worked, what didn't and how we can ensure rapid, effective responses to natural disasters in the future."
