Iowa retailers ban firearms

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Some Iowa retailers are posting signs barring customers from carrying firearms in their stores.  The signs went up since a new state law began making it easier for Iowa residents to get weapons permits.  The new law limits the discretion county sheriffs previously had in denying permits without explanations. Now, sheriffs may deny applications for specific reasons only, such as prior criminal records or drug or alcohol problems. The sheriffs also must provide written explanations.
