Trial over rights to Bratz dolls to begin

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) -- A long-running legal fight between toy giant Mattel and competitor MGA Entertainment over the right to make and market Bratz dolls is heading back to a courtroom.

Last year, a federal appeals court threw out a verdict that awarded $100 million to Mattel.  Now, a new jury will hear opening statements Tuesday in a retrial of the copyright infringement case brought against MGA by Mattel over the sassy, street-wise line of Bratz dolls.

This time around, jurors will also have to decide whether MGA engaged in the theft of trade secrets and if Mattel engaged in unfair business practices.

The trial in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana is expected to take at least four months.
