Snow emergencies issued, travel not advised in some places

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Snow emergencies have been issued in several eastern Iowa communities including Cedar Rapids and Waterloo.

Dubuque police have also issued a statement advising people to stay off the roads if possible, saying current road conditions and the potential for weather later in the day have created unsafe driving conditions.

Many schools that were not already closed because of the holiday have either closed or delayed because of the road conditions.

As of mid-morning, many Waterloo roads were still snow-covered.

About 2-4 inches of snow is expected Monday. Enough warm air is moving northward to mix in some freezing rain, sleet and freezing drizzle, mainly south of Interstate 80. Wind will also play a factor later in the day, blowing the new layer of snow around. Some snow will continue into the overnight with some freezing drizzle mixing in.
