Ottumwa grocer now checks IDs of all ages

OTTUMWA (KWWL) -- The identification checking policy at Hy-Vee stores in Ottumwa has changed.

Since late last year, several Hy-Vee stores in the Ottumwa area have started checking every ID when selling alcohol or tobacco problems, even if the buyer is in their 70s.

The stores involved with this change suffered multiple offenses of selling to minors or not asking for identification and wanted to try a more aggressive system.

Store Director Jason Bishop says no matter the age of a buyer, a driver's license or other form of ID must be scanned in order for alcohol or tobacco to be sold.
