UPDATE: Hope not lost for Dubuque's Hempstead High School cheerleaders

Posted:

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- The Dubuque Community School Board met Friday afternoon to grant the superintendent flexibility in field trip policy interpretation.

In a unanimous vote, board members gave superintendent Dr. Larie Godinez the flexibility to interpret field trip requests.

That means the Hempstead cheerleaders still have a chance of going to the national cheerleading competition in Florida.

This comes after Godinez denied the cheerleaders' trip request, saying the group had not followed proper procedure.

After Friday's vote, Godinez said there remain issues with the potential trip that she will have to address, but the cheerleaders now have a chance at actually going.

In the near future, district administrators will bring a revisions of the policy before the school board.
