New kind of ethanol plant coming to Iowa

DES MOINES (AP)-- A new type of ethanol plant will likely be built in Iowa's Story or Webster County.  The plant will use corn stover like cobs, leaves and stalks, rather than corn kernels to brew the gas-stretching ethanol.

A spokeswoman for the partnership of DuPont and Danisco told the Des Moines Register that Iowa's development offer bested one from Nebraska.  The Iowa Power Fund board approved a $9 million grant for the project.  DuPont had originally sought $19 million.

The plant is expected to be operating by 2013.  It will have about 60 people on the payroll.
