Iowans serve in Afghanistan

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, AFGHANISTAN (KWWL)--  Many Iowans are currently serving in Afghanistan. Vice President Joe Biden dropped in on service members stationed at Bagram Airfield Wednesday during breakfast at the Dragon Dining facility. While he was there, he joked with U.S. Army Specialist Patrick Valant from Dyersville about losing the Iowa caucus.

Private Torin Xaiden from Independence and Specialist Derek Farrington from Ames worked on vehicles at Forward Operating Base Mehtar. Both are serving with the 1-133rd. They also repaired a vehicle's leaking oil before the operator was able to return with the paperwork.

Specialist John Davis from Bettendorf was among the soldiers and non-commissioned officers with the 3rd Battalion of the 187th Infantry Regiment. They competed an annual NCO and soldier of the year competition at Forward Operating Base Andar. The winners were U.S. Army Specialist Jason Dunlap from Eugene, Oregon and Staff Sergeant Britt Cantrell from Walker, Louisiana.
