New type of ethanol plant headed to central Iowa

Posted:

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- A new type of ethanol plant will be built in central Iowa.  The plant will be built in Story or Webster County.  It will use corn stover -- cobs, leaves and stalks -- rather than corn kernels to brew the gas-stretching ethanol.  The Iowa Power Fund board approved a $9 million grant for the project. DuPont had originally sought $19 million.  The plant is expected to be operating by 2013. It will have about 60 people on the payroll.
