Three arrested after meth lab bust in Iowa City

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Police in Iowa City have arrested three people after uncovering a meth lab on Wednesday.

An officer smelled ether in the area of 1409 Keokuk Street early Wednesday morning and called in narcotics officers.

Police say they had been investigating the home for some time.

At 5:58 Wednesday morning, officers saw Barton John Haigh, 53, leaving the home in a vehicle.  They stopped the vehicle, detained Haigh and searched the vehicle.  Officers found meth, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  He was also found to be under the influence of marijuana.  Haigh is charged with Operating While Intoxicated or Drugged, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Keeping a Drug House and Controlled Substance Violation.

When officers executed a search warrant at the home at around 7:30 am, Shannon Christine Kissinger, 40, admitted that she lived at the home and was had used meth that was provided to her from others.  Officers found the meth lab, assorted drugs and other drug related items.  Kissinger is charged with Gathering for the use of Drugs and Keeping a Drug House.

At around the same time, officers stopped a vehicle driven by Teresa Toomey Fisher in the area of Governor and Washington Streets as a part of the search warrant after they saw her leave the home.  Officers say she exhibited signs of drug use.  She refused to submit to any testing for drugs and alcohol.  Fisher is charged with Operating While Intoxicated or Drugged and Keeping a Drug House.

All three were taken to the Johnson County Jail.

It is still under investigation and more could face charges.
