ISU may buy veterinary hospital

AMES (KWWL) -- Iowa State University may soon buy an animal hospital.

The Board of Regents is expected to vote Thursday on a proposal to acquire Iowa Veterinary Specialties in Des Moines.  The purchase would let Iowa Veterinary Specialties refer cases to ISU's Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center in Ames.

Clinical rotations would become available at the Des Moines hospital for ISU students and ISU veterinary faculty members could practice at the hospital, pending approval by hospital management.  The cost is expected to be around $4.6 million.
