Smoking parents put kids at risk for high blood pressure, study says

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Children whose parents smoke have an increased risk for high blood pressure, experts say.

Researchers in Germany measured the blood pressure of over 4,000 kindergarten boys and girls.

They found children with a smoking parent were 20 percent more likely to have high systolic blood pressure, the top number in the reading.

The risk was higher if a child's mother was a smoker.
