TUCSON, Ariz. (KWWL) - Iowa lawmakers are reacting to Saturday's shooting of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

The Arizona Democrat was by a gunman who opened fire outside a Tucson grocery store during a meeting with constituents.

At least five people were killed, including a federal judge and a nine-year-old girl. A number of others were wounded. Doctors say the outlook for Giffords is "optimistic."

Iowa Democratic Party Chairwoman Sue Dvorsky released the following statement:

"Today our thoughts and prayers are with Rep. Giffords and her family, as well as the others injured or killed in today's thoughtless attack. I hope all Iowans will join me in denouncing violence like this that affects far too many families and communities across the nation."
