Floyd County Sheriff busts two marijuana operations

FLOYD CO. (KWWL) -- Charges have been filed against two marijuana grow operations recently busted by the Floyd County Sheriff's Department.

The Sheriff's Department found several growing plants, fertilizer, marijuana, drugs paraphernalia and several firearms at 1591 Cameo Avenue in Nora Springs on Sept. 20.

The seized items were sent in for testing and charges have now been filed against Richard Verchota, 52, for Manufacturing Marijuana which is a class "D" felony, Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, another class "D" felony, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

The Sheriff's office conducted a search on Nov. 29, at a home at 410 Beelar Street in Marble Rock.

There, deputies found growing marijuana plants, marijuana, fertilizer, grow lights and drug paraphernalia.

Those items were sent for testing and charges have been filed against Justin Muto, 21, for Manufacturing Marijuana with intent to deliver, a class "D" felony, Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, another class "D" felony, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

Sheriff's officials say enhancement penalties may be added to this case as the house is within 1,000 feet of the Marble Rock Public Library.

Charges have also been filed against Broderick Vollbrecht, 18, for Possession of Marijuana.
