Flu on the rise in Iowa

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- The Iowa Department of Public Health says cases of the flu are on the rise in the state.

They say that all three strains are continuing to appear in the state and number of people hospitalized by the illness has doubled from seven to 15 in the last week.

The IDPH urges anyone that has not gotten a flu shot to do so now.  They say the vaccine covers all three strains that are being seen in Iowa.

"While the number of individuals hospitalized with the flu may still be small, this is a significant increase.  We also know that now school is back in session, students will spread the virus to each other, their families, and the community," said IDPH Medical Director Dr. Patricia Quinlisk in a written statement.
