UPDATE: Earlville man injured in Afghanistan

EARLVILLE (KWWL) -- A 27-year-old Earlville man has been injured while serving with the Iowa National Guard in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Brian Pfeiler, an infantryman and assistant squad leader with Company D, 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry, was wounded Thursday when he stepped on a landmine while conducting combat patrol in a remote area of Qarghayeed District, Laghman Province, Afghanistan.

The Iowa National Guard says Elijah Wright, a medic attached to Company D who is from Janesville, immediately came to Sgt. Pfeiler's aid.

Sgt. Pfeiler was flown to Jalalabad Airfield for emergency medical care and then was transferred to Craig Joint Theater Hospital at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

He will eventually be taken to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany and then be returned to the U.S. for additional medical care.
