Athlete of the Week: Jadyn Spencer of Waterloo West

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Jadyn Spencer is a once in a life-time athlete.

"In 12 of her 13 sport seasons she'll probably end up being all-state at the 4A level that's practically unheard of," said West High Coach Dr. Tony Pappas

Jadyn is a 2-time all-stater on the basketball court who is the 4th leading scorer in class 4A, leading the Wahawks with about 10 points a game.

She's already a 4-time all-stater in softball, is the reigning Iowa player of the year, and has signed to play at Alabama.  She's also an 8 time state track qualifier, and there's more to come in all 3 sports.

Now even though Jadyn Spencer could head south to Alabama this summer to get ready for her college career, she says once this field here in Waterloo is green, she'll be out here with her West High teammates, because she made a commitment to them, long before she ever committed to the Tide.

"I've had the opportunity to have great teammates and coaches, and I don't think I could say goodbye to that just yet," said Spencer.

Plus there's some unfinished business to take care of.  Despite Jadyn's incredible .613 batting average and her state leading 217 strikeouts on the mound, the Wahawks fell short of the state tournament last season.

There are expectations on the basketball court as well.  Especially after 10th ranked West High knocked off #3 Linn-Mar Tuesday night, snapping a 53 game regular season winning steak.

"There really isn't a limit. I think last night we really achieved and we're only going to build from there," said Spencer.
