If alcoholism runs in the family, obesity may as well

Posted:

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- A new study finds people with a family history of alcoholism face a greater risk of obesity.

The link was especially strong in women, who were 49 percent more likely to be obese when they had alcoholic family members.

The association has grown stronger over time, possibly due to the increasing availability of junk food, which rewards the same part of the brain as alcohol.
