CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Volunteers are needed in Cedar Rapids to take part in two city-wide days of service to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2011 Taskforce will take part in the days of service on Saturday, January 15 and Monday, January 17.

Volunteers will perform a wide range of skilled to unskilled services with local agencies in the Cedar Rapids community.

If you are able to volunteer you can apply at the Arc of East Central Iowa, the Catherine McAuley Center, Iowa Legal Aid, Aging Services, Inc., and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cedar Rapids and East Central Iowa.

If you are unable to volunteer on Martin Luther King Jr. Day you can help out by donating supplies for local Cedar Rapids agencies.  They will be accepted on Saturday, January 15 and Monday, January 17, 2011 at any of the local agencies offering volunteer opportunities, or at Mount Mercy University on Monday, January 17 at the celebration of service.

There is a need for rice, dry beans, canned fruit, canned meat, DVDs, hygiene products, paper products, and feminine hygiene products.

Mount Mercy University will host the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration of service on Monday, January 17 at 9:00 a.m. in Hennessey Recreation Center.
