MEDCO elects first female Chair of the Board of Directors

MARION (KWWL) -- The Marion Economic Development Company, MEDCO, has elected Anne Loomis as it's first female Chair of the Board of Directors.

Loomis, an attorney with Allen, Vernon & Hoskins PLC of Marion, begins her two-year term on January 1, 2011.  She takes over for Dave Martin, who will remain on the MEDCO Board and continue to serve as Chair of the MEDCO Holding Company.

Loomis, a Wisconsin native, earned a BA in Business Finance from UW Platteville and received her law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law.

Loomis has served on the MEDCO Board since 1999 and was also the first female president of the Marion East Cedar Rapids Rotary Club.

"Over the course of the past few years, MEDCO and the City of Marion have taken steps to position Marion for sustained economic growth. The state and national economy have been in recession for two years and we have used this time to create over 300 acres of shovel-ready ground in Marion. The economy is on the upswing and beginning to take off. MEDCO and Marion are poised to ride the crest of the economic wave to create new growth opportunities for Marion businesses," Loomis said in a written statement.

Other newly elected MEDCO officers include Treasurer Jennifer Decker, an accountant with Hogan Hanson PC and Incoming Chair Tom Barnes, owner of Barnes Manufacturing of Marion.
