Fog leads to travel delays

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- It's not snow, but the snow that's melting that's causing travel problems in eastern Iowa...  causing a dense fog advisory for the area.

Flights were delayed and cancelled at the Eastern Iowa Airport.

Everyone handles flight delays, diversions, and cancellations differently. Some take the time to eat, others surf the web, many just keep to themselves.

Traveler Jennifer Smith said, "Every time we come to visit for Christmas, it seems to happen to us."

Jennifer and her 2-year-old son Josh are stuck here for a couple more days.
Their flight back to Canada was grounded due to a thick blanket of fog.

"We're going to go back to Grandma's house, and we're going to put a fire on, and maybe go see the horses again."

The travel delays at the airport reach beyond eastern Iowa.
An incoming flight Wednesday night carrying Iowa Hawkeye fans back from Arizona is pushed back to Friday.

A few fans managed to make it back, though.
Traveler Wes Junge said, "They kept on telling us we might have to go through Moline, so we got pretty lucky to get in."

The Hawkeye football team also had to find another route back to Iowa.
The team was diverted to Madison, Wisconsin, and took a bus the rest of the way to Iowa City.

And the travel frustrations continue, like UPS Courier Matt Weekly.
He showed up to the Eastern Iowa Airport to pick up a package, which never arrived.
"I drove 45 minutes for no reason, but you kind of have to expect it."

Some flights did make it in Wednesday night, so not all was lost.
