Salmonella outbreak may be linked to alfalfa sprouts

Posted:

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL)--  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is advising people to not eat alfalfa sprouts from Tiny Greens Organic Farm in Urbana, IL.

The FDA says there's a risk of salmonella contamination. The warning includes both the Alfalfa Sprouts and Spicy Sprouts, which is a blend of sprouts. The sprouts were sold through grocery stores, restaraunts and farmer's markets in at least 4 Midwest states including Iowa and Illinois.

Officials say early results link the sprouts to a multi-state outbreak of salmonella infections in sandwiches served by Jimmy Johns restaurants.

Tiny Greens says not one sample taken from its product has come back positive for contamination.
