Shoveling out of a Snowy Showroom

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- By now, you've hopefully dug your car out of the snow and plowed your drive -- if not, you have quite the Christmas present waiting for you outside. The storm created a long day of digging for workers at one type of store.

"The plan today is just get the snow off," said David Cole.

Christmas Eve started bright and early at Community Motors. The guys were staying lighthearted about the amount of snow they needed to shovel. Which was probably a good idea with the amount of work ahead of them.

"I've only been out here five minutes, but I plan to be out here until we close," Cole explained.

"It's either today or Monday!" added salesman Dustin Mathenia.

He noted, having a clean parking lot is crucial for selling cars.

"It's just like when you walk into any retail store. If the place looks like a it's a mess, you're not going to be interested. If you got a presentable product in a nice environment, that's what drives your traffic," said Mathenia.

The process started with clearing off the snow, moving every single car, plowing the lot, and then finally moving them all back. Everybody has their own special talent. Mathenia, for one, prides himself in his parking. Cole happens to be a shoveling expert.

"I just do my own thing. Take the snow broom and get all the snow off I possibly can," said Cole.

Their tools help, but it's teamwork that makes the day, like the snow, fly by.

"It's a team effort," said Mark King. "We're part of Community Motors, this is what we do. It's what we gotta do, cause the boss isn't going to like it if we don't!"

The entire process took workers more than seven hours. Everyone on staff was out there helping -- with the exception of one person, who stayed inside to answer phones.
