St. Luke's Hospital awarded 'gold level' performance award

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- St. Luke's Hospital was awarded as a "gold level" recipient in the 2010 Iowa Recognition for Performance Excellence Program.

This honors hospitals for their innovation and performance excellence.  The award is given out by an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

It is based on a written application as well as an on-site evaluation conducted in November.

"It was like wow, we finally made it, and that's been the big thing. We've been working at this thing for like I said several years. We have been an award winner in the past, but no hospital has ever reached to the gold standard and so we were very, very excited that we have reached that level of performance," St. Luke's CEO Ted Townsend said.

St. Luke's has previously been awarded the "silver level" award in 2009, 2007 and 2006.
