Iowa unemployment rate dropping

DES MOINES (KWWL)-- Iowa's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged down to 6.6 percent in November from 6.7 percent in October.  That represents just more than 110,00 people.

The current unemployment rate is still slightly higher than one year ago, when it sat at 6.5 percent.  Meanwhile, the U.S. unemployment rate rose to 9.8 percent in November.  It was the highest rate since April.

"Iowa's unemployment rate and corresponding number of unemployed fell to their lowest levels since January," said Elisabeth Buck, director of Iowa Workforce Development.  "The economic recovery is expected to strengthen in 2011, which should help to create more job opportunities for the state's unemployed."
