Charges filed in Missouri Amber Alert

CASS COUNTY, MISSOURI (KWWL)--  A Missouri mother is charged with making false reports that her two-year-old daughter had been taken from her. Last month, an Illinois amber alert was issued for  Syah Duffey.  That's after Syah's mother, Sharon Duffey,  told police a social worker took her daughter from her East Lynne, Missouri home on the morning of November 11.  In the report, Sharon said that the woman tolder her she was taking Syah because there was something going on in her home.

Court documents reveal say that person was a friend of Syah's father, who had come to Missouri to pick up the girl with him. That woman was later identified as Loralei Gifford.

10 hours later, the girl was located in Iowa with the woman, and her father James Guyer, who is from Hawkeye.  Two two were taken into custody and questioned at the Iowa State Patrol office in Des Moines. They were later released. In the meantime, Sharon drove to the Des Moines area by law enforcement, during which she was interviewed about the circumstances surrounding her daughter being taken. In the criminal complaint, Sharon admitted she was involved in the kidnapping and said she was because she was afraid of Guyer. She later said she handed over her daughter the woman because she was afraid of what Mr. Guyer would do to her or her daughter.

Court documents released Thursday, say that Duffey was aware that Guyer would arrive to take her that day and that she lied to officials about the alleged kidnapping.  The document said that Duffey packed Syah's bags the night before and gave Guyer a note with permission to take her daughter.

The documents say Sharon lived with her grandmother in Fayette and lived in Iowa until Syah's birth and then moved to Missouri to live with her mother.

Syah has been placed in foster care for the time being.
