UNI's Sabin Hall nearing completion

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- It's needed an overhaul for years, now, UNI's Sabin Hall is all made over.  Many students remember sitting in the old wooden chairs, the ones that said Iowa State Teachers College, but not any more.

The university took media on a tour of the renovations Wednesday.  The building has been closed for upgrades for two years now.  There are all new offices, electrical systems and the building is now up to accessibility codes.

It also relies on natural light, making it energy efficient.

"All the classrooms have the latest features for teaching and learning as well as the building environment itself. It has to be controlled with a lot of technology to make sure that the people are comfortable and yet it's safe," Steve Stimmel with Brooks Bork Skiles Architecture Engineering said.

Sabin Hall was first completed in 1914.  The building is scheduled to open for classes in January.
