Hawkeyes prepare to move on without leading rusher Robinson

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The Iowa Hawkeyes once deep backfield is now running on fumes.

Monday night, in a statement released to the media, Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said Hawkeye starting tailback Adam Robinson will not play in the Insight Bowl and often injured running back Jewel Hampton who was once a starter has decided to transfer.

Freshman Marcus Coker who started two games this fall is now the top tailback on the Hawkeye depth chart.

Robinson missed two out of the last three games of the season after suffering concussions, but he has been medically cleared to play.

In the statement Ferentz said, "While Adam has been cleared medically, he will not be participating in the upcoming Insight Bowl game as a result of failing to comply with team expectations and policies. Adam will have the option to rejoin the team when classes resume in January."

Robinson led the Hawkeyes in rushing this season with 940 yards and ten touchdowns. His loss along with the dismissal of receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos means the Hawks will be without the two players who accounted for half the team's touchdowns this season.
