Hawkeyes' Hampton will leave Iowa, Robinson will not travel

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- After rumors have been circulating for days about players leaving the program, the University of Iowa Athletic Department has confirmed that sophomore running back Jewel Hampton has decided to leave the university and sophomore running back Adam Robinson will not make the trip to the Insight Bowl.

"Jewel Hampton has decided to leave the team and plans to transfer to another school to complete his degree and finish his career," Head Coach Kirk Ferentz said in a written statement. "We wish him the best of success in the future."

Despite being cleared medically after suffering a concussion, Robinson will not travel with the team to Arizona to play in the Insight Bowl this month.

"While Adam has been cleared medically, he will not be participating in the upcoming Insight Bowl game as a result of failing to comply with team expectations and policies. Adam will have the option to rejoin the team when classes resume in January," Ferentz said.

Hampton has had multiple injuries during his Iowa career including an injury during the Arizona game earlier this season.

Last week, Iowa standout Derrell Johnson-Koulianos was arrested on drug charges and was suspended from the team.  Running back Brandon Wegher was released from his scholarship on Friday after sitting out the season for personal reasons.

Head Coach Kirk Ferentz will hold a news conference on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. to answer questions. You can watch the news conference live on KWWL.com.
