Prosecutors join principals in warning about sexting

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Federal prosecutors joined forces with Iowa high school principals to warn people sexting is dangerous and could lead to prison time.

At a press conference on Monday, officials referenced the case of a Plymouth man who was sentenced last week to six years in prison for threatening to post a sexually explicit photograph of a former girlfriend.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie Rose says 25-year old Garrett Roeger was sentenced for transporting child pornography and extortion

The picture was taken when the former girlfriend was a minor.

Rose says it's important that students and parents realized the risks of sexting, adding there is only one way to prevent sexting, by not taking the pictures in the first place.
