Apartment living could spell 2nd hand smoke for your kids

Posted:

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Living in an apartment building could increase the risk for secondhand smoke exposure.

A new study of over 5,000 children found those living in multi-unit housing had the highest levels of cotinine, or tobacco smoke contamination in their blood.

Even when no one smoked inside their apartment.

Researchers say while some of the tobacco exposure may come from family members who smoke outside the home, they believe smoke is seeping through walls or ventilation systems in attached units.
