Thinking about eating food may help you eat less of it

PITTSBURG, Pennsylvania (KWWL) -- Just imagining eating your favorite treat may actually help you eat less of it!

That's according to researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, who tested the effects of mental imagery on food consumption.

They found study participants who imagined themselves eating 30 M&M's actually ate fewer of the candies than another group who imagined themselves doing something far less appetizing, like putting quarters into a laundry machine.

Interestingly, these results only held up when people thought about *eating the specific food, but not when they just imagined the food itself.
