WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Americans are dying at a slightly younger age.

This is according to a new report from the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics, revealing mortality statistics from 2008.

Life expectancy dropped from 77.9 years in 2007 to 77.8 years in 2008.

For the first time in 50 years, stroke fell from the third leading cause of death, replaced by chronic respiratory diseases like emphysema and asthma.

Heart disease and cancer still accounted for almost half of all deaths.
