Iowa City offering holiday light recycling

Posted:

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- If you have boxes of old holiday lights laying around and you don't know what to do with them, the City of Iowa City has just the thing for you.

The city has placed holiday light recycling containers at various locations around the city.  All you need to do is bring them there between now and January 10, 2011.  The lights will then be recycled through the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center's electronic waste recycling.

In 2009, about 700 pounds of lights were collected locally for recycling.

The locations are:
- Hy-Vee South (Waterfront Drive)
- Hy-Vee East (First Avenue)
- North Dodge Hy-Vee
- Lantern Park Plaza Hy-Vee (Coralville).
- ReStore (2401 Scott Blvd SE)
- Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center (3900 Hebl Avenue SW)

Please call the recycling coordinator at 319-887-6160 with any questions.
