Kernels announce 2011 field staff

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The Cedar Rapids Kernels have announced their field staff for the 2011 season.

Brent Del Chiaro, an Oakley, California native, will return to the Kernels as the 2011 Manager. Del Chiaro played for the Kernels in 2002 and was the Kernels Hitting Coach in 2009 and 2010.

Former Major League pitcher Trevor Wilson will make his debut as the Kernels Pitching Coach in 2011.  Drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 8th round of the 1985 Free Agent Draft, Wilson played eight seasons in the majors, posting a 41-46 record and 3.87 ERA in 169 games. He is the only pitcher in the history of the Giants, New York or San Francisco, to strike out three batters on nine pitches.  He was a coach in the Giants organization before joining the Angels and was the Pitching Coach at Tempe in 2009 and 2010.

Another former Kernels player, Mike Eylward, returns to Cedar Rapids as the Kernels Hitting Coach. He played for the Kernels in 2001 and 2002.  Eylward played eight seasons in the minors and has been the Hitting Coach for the Orem Owlz the past two seasons.

After spending a season with the Arkansas Travelers, Eric Munson returns to Cedar Rapids as the Kernels Athletic Trainer.  Munson was the Kernels Athletic Trainer in 2005 and 2006 and served as the athletic trainer for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders before that.

The first pitch for the Kernels tenth season in Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium will be on April 11 at 6:35 p.m. against the Wisconsin TimberRattlers.
