Waterloo police officer charged with drunk driving

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Waterloo Police Officer Augustin Farmer was arrested over the weekend for an OWI.

Farmer, 28, was driving on Highway 218 coming from Cedar Falls around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning when a Black Hawk County Sheriff's Deputy pulled him over for speeding. The Deputy says Farmer had blood shot eyes, slurred speech, smelled of alcohol and admitted he had been drinking. Farmer took a breath test and had a .105 blood alcohol level.

Farmer was arrested and charged with a 1st offense OWI and given a verbal warning for speeding.

Capt. Tim Pillack says Farmer is still assigned to the Patrol Division while the incident is being investigated.

"He was shown no special treatment and will be treated like any other citizen," Pillack said in a written statement.
