CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) Thanks to help from the community, students with special needs have some new games and materials to use for learning.
The students are in Jennifer Schlader's class at River Hills school in Cedar Falls. Schlader visited www.donorschoose.org to sign up to get a project funded.
"This year I have two students with visual difficulties and I needed materials that fit them, and they needed more sensory tactile activities. Chunkier things they can touch and feel," said Jennifer Schlader.
Thanks to donations, Schlader's order for sensory and tactile materials was fulfilled.
Students use the new materials in a group setting or through independent work.
Cael is one student thriving through independent work.
"He just enjoys being independent so when he can do things independently he gets great joy out of that," said Schlader.
Teacher Jennifer Schlader said it's nice to have extra resources available to get items for her students.
Items that can dramatically improve learning for these young students with special needs.
"Our school is good about getting us the materials we need, but I know they need it in other places, so just using other support is a big help," said Schlader.
