Gunshot narrowly misses couple in home

GRANT COUNTY, WI (KWWL)-- A woman reading in her living room missed being hit shot by a hunter by eight feet.

Officials in Grant County were called to the Kartman home at 8389 County Road U at 8:10 a.m. Friday morning on a report that a hunter had shot in the direction of a house.

Officials later discovered deer hunter Michael Meier, of Potosi, Wisconsin, had shot at a buck three times in the direction of the home.

Deputies found a hole in the back of the Kartman residence in the dining room area. They followed the bullet's track through two other interior walls, then a wooden chair spindle before striking a large metal gun safe.

Lawrence Kartman and his wife, Ruth, were both reading in their living room when they heard the bullet hit their home. Officials say the bullet missed hitting Ruth by approximately eight feet.

No one was injured. Charges of Endangering Safety by use of a Dangerous Weapon will be referred to the Grant County District Attorney's Office.
