Campaign launched to build Independence School facility

INDEPENDENCE (KWWL) -- The Independence Mustang Foundation says it will lead the effort to raise an estimated $130,000 in private donations for a new multi-purpose facility for the Independence School District.

At a recent meeting, the Independence Board of Education unanimously approved the Mustang Foundation's request to begin the 100% privately-funded capital campaign.

If successful in raising 100% of the funds, the Mustang Foundation's goal is to begin construction in the spring of 2011. The multi-purpose facility will feature a locker room, showers, storage room, trainer's room and coaches' office. The new facility will benefit student athletes who compete in football, track and soccer. The facility will be located directly east of Lyle Leinbaugh Field and next to the practice fields.

The Mustang Foundation says it has already secured the support of several local contractors, suppliers and donors. Upon completion, the multi-purpose facility will become property of the District. The new facility will also provide an emergency storm shelter during severe weather.

The Mustang Foundation says the new facility became a need after the District converted portions of locker rooms, showers and storage facilities into classrooms as part of the facility realignment.
