Dubuque student gets perfect ACT score

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- A Wahlert Catholic High School student scored a perfect 36 on the ACT.

17-year-old Eric Varley said the score was an improvement upon his April score of 34. He also said it bests his score from when he took the test back in eighth grade. He had received a 30.

Varley, a National Merit Scholarship winner, runs cross country and track for Wahlert.

He said he felt confident going into the test he could improve his previous score.

Both of his parents work in the Holy Family Catholic School system.
