UPDATE: Toothbrush to blame for Isle evacuation

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says an electric toothbrush is what caused the more than four hour evacuation of the Isle Casino and Hotel.

Waterloo Police and Fire were called to the casino at around 1:40 Friday afternoon after maintenance workers alerted casino security to a piece of luggage that was making a suspicious noise.

All guests and staff were evacuated from the building and MET buses were brought in to keep them warm.

The Waterloo Police Hazardous Device/Bomb Squad Unit were then called in to further investigate the suitcase.

Courtney Greene, spokesperson for DCI, says they determined it was an electric toothbrush that had turned on inside the suitcase.

The casino and hotel re-opened at around 6:00 pm.

A call to the casino to find out how much the toothbrush incident cost them has not been returned.
