Hayden Fry retired 12 years ago

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Hayden Fry retired as head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes after the worst season as coach November 23, 1998.  With 143 victories, Hayden is Iowa's winningest head football coach by a wide margin.

Iowa was 3-8 overall, and 2-6 in the conference in 1992. Later, Fry revealed he coached that season while undergoing treatments for prostate cancer.

Hayden Fry may be best known for his white pants on the sideline, painting the visiting team's locker room pink and leading the team in dancing the hokey pokey after big victories.

This past year, at Fry Fest, more than 4,000 people continued the hokey pokey tradition, breaking a world record in Coralville.

Hayden Fry now lives with his wife Shirley in Mesquite, Nevada.
