Iowans honor Staff Sergeant Sal Giunta


HIAWATHA (KWWL) --  An Iowa Hero returns home this week. Gov. Chet Culver has declared Tuesday to be "Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta Day" in Iowa.

The Medal of Honor recipient is taking part in a special ceremony at the state capitol on Tuesday morning in Des Moines then he'll head to Hiawatha for a parade in his honor.

The ''Welcome Home'' parade will start on West Emmons Street at 5:00 p.m. It will then run north on 15th Avenue, east on Litchfield Drive, south on 12th Avenue and Lyndhurst Drive, then follow 10th Avenue and end at Guthridge park.

Giunta is from Hiawatha and graduated from Kennedy High School.

The city is sponsoring a "Welcome Home" sign contest. Make your best sign and show it off during the parade. The winner will receive $100.
