Cyclones shock Creighton with buzzer beater

Posted:

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Jamie Vanderbeken's 35 foot buzzer beater lifted Iowa State to a 91-88 victory over Creighton in Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday.  The shot spoiled former Cyclone coach Greg McDermott's return to the state in his first year at Creighton.

Photos of Vanderbeken's shot appear to show that it left his hand a split second after the buzzer sounded.  Officials, however, ruled the shot was off on time, and since the game wasn't televised, video replay could not be used to confirm the call.

Diante Garrett led the Cyclone effort with a career high 28 points.  Iowa State moves to 4-0 on the season, while Creighton suffered their first loss to drop to 3-1.
